Active Schools Flag - Physical Activity
The day before our Christmas break we decided as a whole school to firstly walk, scoot or cycle to school in our Santa Hats! Then at 9.45 all children from junior infants to second class ran a mile in their Christmas jumpers and Santa hats. Then at 10.15 all children from third to sixth ran their mile! It was so much fun and looked brilliant... so festive! We loved to stay active! See Pictures below!
Our Witches Walk
In Mount Anville we encourage all children to walk, scoot or cycle to school. To make this more fun on Hallowe’en we had the ‘WITCHES WALK’ whereby all children walked to school in their costumes! See pictures below!

Music in the yard
To be active coming up to the Christmas season we decided to introduce music in the yard! On Thursdays and Fridays. We made a Christmas song playlist that all ages could dance to! Some of the older girls and playground leaders danced with the younger girls. It was great fun and the kids really enjoyed it! We will continue to use different themed music throughout the school year! See pictures below.
“Game of the week for January”
Our new game of the week for January was x’s and o’s
Each of the senior playground leaders were taught the rules by the teachers on the ASF committee and then they were responsible for teaching their own class! They loved this new game and it was great fun! Everyone from 3rd-6th class got involved! See pictures below!
“Game of the week for February”
For the month of February we were learning how to play “Snatch The bacon”
The senior playground leaders were paired up with a junior class. They had to teach them how to play this game. They were responsible from bringing out the required equipment. The junior kids loved this game and continue to play it now that they know all the rules! See pictures below!
“Game of the week for March”
Each class has been giving a “Playground Equipment Pack” by our ASF COMMITTEE. Each class gets:
- 3 hulla hoops
- 4 bean bags
- 3 balls
- 4 skipping ropes
- 3 elastic bands
The playground leaders are each assigned to a different class and for the month of March they are teaching the classes what to do with each piece of equipment. The younger children are loving learning how to use the hulla hoops and skipping! The more senior girls are learning so great games with the elastics and enjoying bigger skipping games! Each class has two girls in charge of their equipment so that it doesn’t get mixed up or lost! Every class has different coloured equipment, for example junior infants have all yellow, senior infants all blue etc! See pictures below!
April Book Treasure Hunt
We decided to make some of the activities for book week active! We held a “Book Treasure Hunt” on world Book day. Every class got to go out and run around in Pairs and follow the clues! Some of the older girls came to help the juniors! It was very active and great fun! See pictures below!
